Meet The Team: David Wenzlick

David is responsible for GIS development out of the Tomahawk office. His duties include developing map and data products for clients, utilizing programs such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ESRI ArcMap. David specializes in producing custom map products for clients in a timely fashion. He exemplifies Steigerwaldt’s trademark of ‘Quality work fast, with honesty and integrity.’


Please provide a professional history introduction (prior and during your time at Steigerwaldt):
  • Prior to my employment at Steigerwaldt, I was employed with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for 5 years as a limited-term employee, 3 years as a Facilities Maintenance Worker at the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest in Boulder Junction, WI, 1 year as a Fisheries Technician on the Pike Lake Chain of Lakes in Price County, Wisconsin, and 1 year as a Parks and Recreation Specialist in the Flambeau River State Forest near Winter, WI. During my 2 years with Steigerwaldt, I have been the GIS Specialist, located in the Tomahawk office.
Why are you passionate about this field?
  • Since a young age, I have always had a great interest in and have enjoyed studying and reading maps, as they can be utilized for so many things. In the GIS field, each day and each project present a new and interesting challenge. Maps also tell stories, which assist in the decision-making process.
How do you serve our clients?
  • As a GIS Specialist, I mainly assist the other departments with map creation and data management. I create map products such as those utilized in appraisals and timber sale harvests. I also perform analyses on data used on these map products.
Why do you enjoy working at Steigerwaldt?
  • Each member of the Steigerwaldt staff is very welcoming and helpful. Steigerwaldt presents as that of a friendly and professional atmosphere where all individuals play an integral role in the success of the business. I have a great interest in Natural Resources and Forestry, which is what brought me here, but I am also excited about opportunities for advancement which exist.

Since you’ve worked here, how has the industry changed?

  • How maps are made and how data is collected is constantly changing across all the departments. This includes GIS with the use of products/programs, such as MobileMap and ArcGIS Pro.

What industry changes are you most excited about?

  • I am most excited about what the future continues to bring regarding how GIS can be utilized. It is never stagnant, and the new processes/methods of data collection and presentation will always continue to present challenges on how we can best serve our clients.
          What’s your favorite tree and why?
          • Sugar maples for the syrup and their colors.
          What would you do with 10 acres?
          • Build a cabin with a food plot/pond.

            What is your favorite outdoor activity?

            • Fishing, as it can be done year-round.
