Meet Ryan Simmons

Ryan is responsible for directing and leading field operations at Steigerwaldt Tree Farm for Christmas tree production. His duties include directing and managing field staff towards specific goals and deadlines, along with maintaining equipment and relations across the department.

Please provide a professional history introduction (prior and during your time at Steigerwaldt):
  • I was a pesticide applicator and groundworker for a tree care company during my time in college. I graduated from UW-Stevens Point with Bachelor degrees in Forest Management and Urban Forestry. I started working for Steigerwaldt in the summer of 2021 as the Tree Farm Field Manager where I maintain Christmas tree health and quality.
Why are you passionate about this field?
  • I like being part of every step a Christmas tree must take in order to look magical in someone’s home. It’s rewarding to see all of my team’s hard work pay off by witnessing families pick out their favorite tree.
How do you serve our clients?
  • I help serve our clients by being part of every process that goes into making a Christmas tree: planting, shearing, harvesting, and much more.
Why do you enjoy working at Steigerwaldt?
  • I love the seasonal changes that keep the workload exciting to look forward to. There are many skills to keep learning and perfecting throughout each season.
    Since you’ve worked here, how has the industry changed?
    • Demand for Christmas trees are still rising, which makes me motivated to continue to produce quality trees.
    What industry changes are you most excited about?
    • I am excited to continue to make Tree Farm’s work efficient in order to keep up with our growing industry.
        What’s your favorite tree and why?
        • White oak, because of their big personalities in open spaces.
