Joe Mattke has been with Steigerwaldt for 15 and a half years. He currently holds the title of Vice President – Field Operations.
What do you specialize in?
I specialize in timberland management projects.
What does a day in your role look like?
It is highly dependent on the day. Most days consist of working with and training younger foresters on different aspects of timberland management including harvesting, silviculture work, and property inventories.
What initially drew you to your field?
What drew me to this field is the opportunity to be able to do some type of work outside and working with natural resources.
What energizes you and keeps your passion going?
Seeing the projects we do come together and working with the team to get results is what energizes me.
What is your favorite part of your role or favorite thing about working at Steigerwaldt?
My favorite part of my role is the work that we do. There is such a variety in projects – not only in the types of projects or work, but also in the geography, weather, and climate of where we work.
