Evan Roubal has been with Steigerwaldt for just over 2 and a half years. He currently holds the title of Forester II.

What do you specialize in?

I specialize in timber sale preparation activities. These include stand reconnaissance, timber sale proposals, harvest and property boundary establishment, harvest marking, and volume cruising. Additionally, I am well-versed in various types of forest inventory work.

What does a day in your role look like?

A day in my role typically starts with some morning prep work to get everything ready for the day’s work. This could include communication with other team members and loading gear into the truck, such as boxes of paint, flagging, or an ATV (snowmobile during the winter). After this, it’s time to hit the field which is where we spend most of our time as foresters. Fieldwork can vary greatly, but much of the time we are marking trees for harvest or conducting forest inventory. Once we have completed our work, we return to the office, unload our gear, and do any end of day tasks such as uploading data or communicating with tomorrow’s crew about where we left off.

What initially drew you to your field?

I was drawn to my field by my love of the outdoors and passion to make the world a more sustainable place.
