Our Core
Paul Schultz has been with Steigerwaldt for 1 year, 9 months. He currently holds the title of GIS Technician.
What do you specialize in?
I specialize in providing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) services to other staff at Steigerwaldt. These services include things like map & data creation, editing, and sometimes analysis of that data. These maps and data are an integral part of the products our staff produce for our many different clients.
What does a day in your role look like?
In a typical day, I could be creating a series of figure maps for an Appraisal report, making harvest maps for a timber sale, or putting together data and maps for staff to use in the field for navigation and data collection purposes. At other times, I may be working on large wall-sized property maps for clients or updating client databases.
What initially drew you to your field?
I was drawn to this field through the exposure I had to GIS during my previous career with the Wisconsin DNR. I found this area of work fascinating, and I immediately recognized the potential these systems had for numerous applications and the many ways it could be used to assist land management efforts.
What energizes you and keeps your passion going?
I love the challenges of this position. I’ve always had a strong desire to learn new things, and even after many decades of working with GIS, I’ve found there is always something new to discover. Often, you find new ways (to you) of doing things that end up being more efficient or effective. It’s these discoveries that drive me and give me a sense of accomplishment.
What is your favorite part of your role or favorite thing about working at Steigerwaldt?
My favorite part of my role is that I get to work with the many different departments at Steigerwaldt. This provides me with great job diversity and always keeps things new and interesting.
What are three attributes that describe your team?
