Safety at Steigerwaldt: Eye Protection

March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month.

Here are a few eye wellness recommendations:

  • Make sure you have safety glasses in good condition; if you don’t, speak to your supervisor
  • Wear glasses in the field to protect your eyes from branches, bugs, paint, debris, etc.
  • Keep back up glasses in the truck
  • Eye wash stations are located by paint and chemicals and portable stations are in trucks
  • At your desk, follow the “20-20-20” rule- every 20 minutes look away from screen and look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds
  • Place your monitor 20-26 inches from your eyes and a little below eye level
  • Consider blue light or yellow-tinted glasses
  • Have proper lighting in the room and on your monitor and adjust zoom as needed

Healthy vision is crucial for productive work, independence, and quality of life. Individual and team safety is always the priority.

A note from our Safety Worm, Ryan:

Eye safety is a simple yet crucial part of a person’s work life. Out in the field, hazards like branches, twigs, paint, tools, or other debris could cause irritation or lasting damage to your eyes. Wearing safety glasses is always a great idea to protect yourself. In the office, your eyes could become strained when looking at close distances for too long. Taking moments throughout the day to look away from the computer is a healthy habit to care for your eyes. Stay safe out there!
