How have you built confidence and/or resiliency over the course of your career?
I’ve built confidence and resiliency by embracing the unique organizational perspective that my accounting and audit roles provided. I made it a priority to truly understand the systems, processes, risks, and controls behind the work—not just complete the audit steps or accounting tasks. That curiosity helped me become a subject matter expert and often the resource colleagues turn to with questions. Challenging assumptions, asking difficult questions, and providing objective insights are not always easy conversations, but they are essential to strengthening organizations.
What advice do you have for women looking to grow within your field?
My advice for women looking to grow in the finance, accounting, or audit field is to stay curious, be coachable, and commit to continuous learning. Asking thoughtful questions and seeking to understand the “why” behind things is incredibly valuable. It’s also important to step outside your comfort zone and be open to taking on different roles or new challenges. Those experiences broaden your perspective and help build the confidence and leadership skills needed as your career progresses. By remaining curious, open to feedback, and willing to stretch yourself, you’ll continue to grow both your expertise and your leadership potential.
