Forester

Andrew S. Bodin

Andrew serves as a Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through forest operations. Andrew specializes in administering and marking timber sales, timber marking, stand boundary delineation, and gathering inventory data.

Andrew holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in Forest Management

Prior to his current position, Andrew was an intern with the DNR in Hibbing, MN. Andrew also worked with the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station in Grand Rapids, MN.

In his free time, Andrew enjoys trout, bass and walleye fishing, snowmobiling and duck hunting.

Forest Asset Manager

Richard W. Congdon

Richard serves as a Forest Asset Manager for Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. where he has worked since January 2020. Prior to his current position, he served as Project Manager as well as an Assistant Analyst/Real Estate Specialist. He has been a part of the forest industry in Wisconsin and Michigan since 2009 when he graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with majors in Forest Administration and Utilization, Forest Management, and a minor in Business Administration.

Richard has a broad forestry background having been employed at a consulting firm, a tribal government, an international land management company, a logging company, a paper mill, and a nature reserve. He has extensive experience in land management and data analysis specializing in large-tract timberland valuation. He has a broad skillset and range of knowledge including project management, contract negotiation and administration, data quality assurance/quality control, design and implementation of timber harvest and inventory programs, short- and long-term harvest planning, and assisting with land acquisitions and dispositions.

In his current role, Richard leads part of Steigerwaldt’s Forestry Department. He is involved in project management, staff oversight, and business development support within the department. He oversees a team of foresters who provide all aspects of land management for our large private landowners. He is responsible for operations oversight on client-owned properties, as well as client and company budget management, client relationships, project management, staffing, procurement, and execution of business directives and expectations.

Senior Forester

Craig T. Dalton

Craig serves as a Senior Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services where he serves as the primary contact for forest management projects and the liaison between the field, client, and senior management.

Craig holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Illinois in Forest Management. Craig also has a Master’s Degree in Forest Science from Texas A&M University. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters and the Forest History Association of Wisconsin.

Prior to joining the Steigerwaldt team, Craig most recently served as the Property Manager for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He also served as a Forester with the Department for many years with an emphasis on timber sale establishment and administration and has extensive experience working in Lake States timber types.

In his free time Craig enjoys dabbling in many outdoor pursuits. Most notably hunting, fishing, skiing and traveling with family.

Senior Forester

Dave L. Dhaseleer, ACF

Now retired from his full-time role as Vice President, Forestry Operations Advisor, David continues to work in a limited capacity as a Senior Forester. With his vast forestry experience and 28-year history with Steigerwaldt, David works closely with select clients on forestland management and advises staff on a wide range of forestry matters.

Project Forester

Tristan E. Forsberg

Tristan Forsberg serves as a Project Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through forest operations. Tristan specializes in forest management planning, timber sales, stand delineation, gathering inventory data, and boundary marking.

Tristan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry from Michigan Technological University.

Prior to his current position, Tristan worked as an Area Forester for two years with the Tennessee Division of Forestry.

In his free time, Tristan enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and relaxing on the boat or at the beach.

Forester

Max M. Heinz

Maxwell (Max) Heinz serves as a Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through forest operations. Max specializes in timber sale administration, timber marking, stand boundary delineation, and gathering inventory data.

Max holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Forest Management-Wildland Fire Science, with a minor in conservation biology.

Prior to his current position, Max was a Consulting Utility Forester. He also has prior experience in timber sale preparation and administration.

In his free time, Max enjoys woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Project Forester

Bret J . Hilliard

As a Project Forester with Steigerwaldt, Bret is responsible for timber sale set up, stand research and reconnaissance, harvest research, data recording, and field observations. His duties also include inventory data collection, carbon cruising, project planning and support.

Bret holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management and a minor in Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

Prior to his current position, Bret interned as a Resource Crew Technician at Forest Preserves of Cook County in Illinois. He also has experience in landscaping and lawn care.

In his free time, Bret enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, and target shooting.

LRM Support Technician

Jack Krebs

Jack serves as the Land and Resource Management Support Technician at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through inventory data collection, project support, timber marking, and carbon cruising.

Jack holds a dual Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in Water Science and Environmental Science with an emphasis in Lake and Stream Restoration.

Prior to his current position, Jack was an intern with Steigerwaldt in the summer of 2022, and more recently he taught Outdoor Education with the JPII Outdoor Lab in Estes Park, CO.

In his free time, Jack enjoys woodworking, travelling, learning guitar, and all things outside. Particular favorites include backpacking, bouldering, exploring public lands, and cold plunges.

Vice President - Field Operations

Joe A. Mattke, ACF

Joe serves as Vice President of Field Operations for Steigerwaldt Land Services. Joe has worked for Steigerwaldt since October 2010 and has been a forester in northern Wisconsin since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry with a Forest Management and Urban Forestry Emphasis. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters and the Association of Consulting Foresters. He is a cooperating forester with the Wisconsin DNR, a certified plan writer, and is FISTA-SFI trained.

Joe specializes in oversight and execution for forest operations for our large private landowners (TIMO, REIT, and large private non-industrial ownerships). He is experienced in all aspects of Lake States silviculture, third-party certification systems (SFI and ATF), timber sale harvest planning, establishment, marketing, contracting, and administration, inventory execution and field oversight, forest road maintenance and improvement, and reforestation planning and contracting.

In his current role, Joe manages foresters in Steigerwaldt’s Tomahawk, Wisconsin, office. He is responsible for operations oversight of approximately 175,000 acres of client-owned properties, as well as client and company budget management, client relationships, project management, staffing, procurement, and execution of business directives and expectations.

Forester

Evan J. Roubal

Evan Roubal serves as a Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through Forest Operations including timber marking and other timber sale prep work, forest reconnaissance, and forest and carbon inventory data collection, in which he specializes.

Evan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, with a minor in Ecology, from Michigan Technological University.

Prior to his current position, Evan worked seasonally as a Regeneration Monitoring Forester and a Plant Pest Disease Specialist, both with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He also has prior experience in timber sale preparation and Emerald Ash Borer treatment.

In his free time, Evan enjoys being outdoors, going on hikes and running, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Division Coordinator

Rachel Rubo

Rachel Rubo serves as a Division Coordinator Steigerwaldt Land Services. She is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through invoicing, forecasting, reporting and accountability tracking. Rachel specializes in operational support and financial management within the forestry industry, particularly with a focus on budgeting, invoicing, forecasting, and performance tracking

Rachel holds a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Marketing and Management.

Prior to her current position, Rachel was a Crude Oil Scheduler for 13 years.

In her free time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family, taking her dog Fergie for early morning walks, reading Perez Hilton, e-biking, and trying a new recipe each week. She also loves traveling to Europe on a domestic budget.

Forest Asset Manager

Derek B. Schummer

Derek serves as a Forest Asset Manager at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is involved in project management, staff oversight, and business development support within the department. In his current role, Derek oversees a team of foresters who provide all aspects of land management for our large private landowners. He is responsible for operations oversight on client-owned properties, as well as client and company budget management, client relationships, project management, staffing, procurement, and execution of business directives and expectations.

Derek specializes in all aspects of timber sale setup and administration on a variety of timber types for clients including non-industrial private landowners, investment companies, and government agencies. Derek assists on timber inventory projects nationwide by providing logistical planning, as well as performing fieldwork. Derek also supports teams that monitored the implementation of forestry Best Management Practices (BMP) in Michigan and Minnesota.

Derek earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management, with a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point in 2012. Prior to enrolling at UWSP, Derek enlisted in the U.S. Army from 2005 to 2007. Derek is a member of the Society of American Foresters, a cooperating forester, a WI KBB and Lupine Surveyor, and a Certified Plan Writer for the Wisconsin DNR; he has also earned his FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot license.

In his free time, Derek enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and kids. Some of their favorite activities include traveling, biking, camping, and fishing.

Project Forester

Rachel B. Smith

Rachel Smith serves as a Project Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. She is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through forest operations. Rachel specializes in forest management planning, timber sales, stand delineation, gathering inventory data, and boundary marking.

Rachel holds a Bachelor's Degree from North Carolina State University with an emphasis in Forest Management.

Prior to her current position, Rachel worked as a forester in North Carolina for five years. She assisted a variety of landowners in managing their forestland.

In her free time, Rachel enjoys archery, golf, and hunting.

Vice President - Land & Resource Management

Dan L. Toivonen

Dan Toivonen serves as the Vice President of Land and Resource Management at Steigerwaldt Land Services. Dan oversees the Forestry, Environmental and Tree Farm departments, and he is responsible for supporting the division through business development, large land management, environmental services, and tree farm activities. Dan has 30 years of experience in procurement and land management across the US and Canada. He is a Society of American Foresters certified forester and holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of WI - Stevens Point and a master’s in management from the College of St. Scholastica.

Prior to his current position, Dan spent most of his career with large industrial forestry companies across the US and Canada managing timberlands, leading procurement efforts, forest certification and sustainability, and managing and developing forestry professionals.

In his free time, Dan enjoys spending time with his family and new grandson and fishing whenever he can. He also enjoys hiking with his wife, occasional hunting trips, and spending time around their home in Springbrook, WI gardening and cutting firewood.

Forester

Jason D. Waterman

Jason serves as a Forester at Steigerwaldt Land Services. He is responsible for supporting the Land and Resource Management division through forest operations. Jason specializes in gathering forest inventory data, stand boundary delineation, and data analysis.

Jason holds a Bachelor's Degree from Michigan Technological University in Forestry.

Prior to his current position, Jason was a fiber supply intern at Billerud Americas in Quinnesec, MI. Jason has also worked with JM Longyear in Marquette, MI.

In his free time, Jason enjoys hunting, following sports, and playing pickleball.
