Our Core

Scott Crum has been with Steigerwaldt for 3 years. He currently holds the title of Analyst I.

What do you specialize in?

I specialize in large timberland appraisals, maintaining in-house database systems for lands under our management, as well as production of maps, spatial, and data analysis.

What does a day in your role look like?

My day to day is highly variable depending on the current project workload and may be dedicated to working on large datasets coming from our cruisers, working with shapefiles for lands we manage, writing large timberland appraisal reports and the analysis involved with them, or occasional field work.

What initially drew you to your field?

I have always had a passion for working with trees and getting engrossed in the numbers and statistics behind them.

What energizes you and keeps your passion going?

I am always learning new methods of approaching problems and get to dig into data from different areas of the country. Seeing how the approach to management, assignment of value, or even cruise methodology varies depending on where you are in the country is very interesting to me. Always being in a position to understand the “why” of how a problem is approached is constantly invigorating.

What is your favorite part of your role or favorite thing about working at Steigerwaldt?

I enjoy the variability of work. Day to day and week to week there is always a new project to sink my teeth into. As I grow in the company and analytics, I am exposed to new projects and responsibilities that require growth and can be a stretch but always leads to absorbing new information.

What are three attributes that describe your team?

I think the IGS team can best be described as flexible, coordinated, and dedicated.
