What challenges have you overcome as a woman in leadership? Do you have any advice?

Over the years I have faced similar challenges that many women face in a field dominated by men. Building a track record of strong performance and delivering results opened up many opportunities. Mentors were instrumental in supporting my growth and development. Their guidance and coaching helped throughout my career.

What challenges do women face in your field today?

  1. Lack of leveraging relationships – such as building a professional network and identifying a mentor
  2. Putting their “job” before their career
  3. The perfection trap
  4. Minimizing
  5. No defined long-term goals or development plan to build new skills and grow as a professional
  6. Confidence
  7. Communication skills

Can you tell us about a woman who positively influenced your life?

Sally Bailey – former CFO at Louisiana Pacific and independent board member for several companies. She made it a point to be a resource when I joined LP in 2015. Sally answered many questions and provided insight into the company and how to be successful. She encouraged me to seek a Board of Directors seat, provided references and introductions, and has been generous with her time.
