What’s in Rich’s Cruise Vest?
A forester measures the height and diameter at breast height (DBH) of trees to assess volume. One tool we use to help with this calculation is a diameter tape or logger’s tape.
These tape measures have a standard ruler on one side that is typically 50 to 100 feet in length, whereas the other side has a ruler with a specifically calibrated scale for measuring the tree’s diameter by wrapping the tape around the tree.
We usually keep these tapes handy and have them swinging from our belt loop or a grommet on our cruise vests.
