What’s in Rich’s Cruise Vest?

Arguably, a forester’s most useful tool in their cruise vest is their compass.

If the technology we use fails, we can fall back on tried-and-true methods of navigation that have been used for centuries, because a compass does not use batteries and does not need a GPS signal.

With a compass, foresters can run a harvest boundary line and can accurately traverse to inventory plots where we measure trees to estimate volumes. We can even find our way back to the truck (or lunch pail!) using a compass.
